A one day workshop was organised on the theme of CGS on Agriculture in Shillong

Shillong, November 18: A one day workshop was organised on the theme of Central government schemes on Agriculture at Shillong today. The workshop was organised by Directorate of field publicity, DFP, MMT region for its field officers.

The workshop marks the commencement of special awareness programmes on the theme of Central schemes on Agriculture, research and training. Head of Division, ICAR, Dr RG Laha was the Chief Guest at the workshop. He said that such a workshop is an unprecedented one and the need of the hour.

While appreciating the DFP’s efforts he stressed that many people are not yet aware on the schemes and policies. He also added that these programmes will enable farmers to get information and enable them to improve their livelihood and generate employment in the Agriculture sector.

The guest of honour, Shri John Thabah, Editor of Highland Post, noted that such programmes will prevent rural to urban migration. He also elaborated on the need for media action in raising the awareness. He made it clear that information is crucial for success of any Government scheme or programme.

Shri Swaroop Sharma, ACTO, ICAR mentioned that all stakeholders need to come forward and collaborate for success of programmes. He also said that many villages have different requirements and the programmes need to be fine tuned as per local requirements.

Director of DFP Shillong Dr Engam Pame had clarified that DFP is mandated to carry Inter personal communication and reach Media Shadow areas. He also mentioned that feedback mechanism exists in DFP to provide inputs to Client Ministries for assessment of impact of the conducted programmes.

Senior scientists of ICAR, Umiam, Dr Pankaj Kumar Sinha and Dr Bagish Kumar spoke during Technical session. Dr Sinha spoke at length on National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture, National Agriculture Development Programme and Agriculture Technology Management Agency.

Dr Bagish Kumar spoke on Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Soil health card and Technological advances in Agriculture.
The workshop was attended by officers of All India Radio, Customs Department, media persons and the officials of ICAR, Umiam and heads of Field Units of DFP MMT region.
