ADE writes to CEM of the GHADC on illegal smuggling of forest product from Garo Hills to Assam

Shillong, September 28: The organization from Garo Hills ADE has written to the Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on illegal smuggling of forest product from Garo Hills to Assam.

In the letter written to the CEM, ADE said that, recently it has come to light that some people are abusing the norms for supplying or transporting forest resources like bamboo from Garo Hills, Meghalaya to Assam. As far the norm goes one should acquire a Transit Pass (TP) per trip, from the concerned authority to transport forest resources. But few people are ignoring the rules like nothing wrong happening.

On the letter ADE has alleged that some people, who has been involved in transporting or supplying Bamboo from Chibinang, West Garo Hills to Dhubri, Assam. This person has been exploiting the rules by supplying several loads of bamboo through a single transit Pass, the organization also alleged that, it has been learnt that the Phulbari Range officer of GHADC were alleged  involved with this whole illegal business since he has the one who gave TP (Transit pass without any prior permission from the concerned authorities of GHADC.

The organization ADE said that this has been happening for a long time and nobody from the concerned authorities like GHADC, Forest Department or the Law Enforcing bodies has done anything to check this. This is not a singular occurrence, many other miscreants would be found if detailed inspection is done.

This is not only a crime of revenue fraud against the state, but it also affects the natural balance of our motherland. The authorities issue a specific amount of natural resources to be exported under certain criterion, as not to harm the natural balance. But the miscreants exploit the norms for personal gain without giving any thought about ecological damage. If this goes on as it is we are sure to leave a barren province for our future generation. Said the president of the organization Dalseng Bira Ch. Momin.

From the organization ADE appeal to all the concerned authorities to take the matter very seriously and take necessary steps to check such happenings in the future. The said offenders along with others who are involved should immediately be brought to justice and stringent action should be taken. The permits for business should be revoked and legal action should be initiated as soon as possible.
