Shillong, April 04: The Meghalaya Health Minister Mr AL Hek after knowing that Resident Doctors of NEIGRIHMS are resorting to total shutdown of medical services from 4th April,2019 pressing for their demands and redressal of their grievances.
It is strongly felt by me that such a shutdown of medical services has the potential to disrupt healthcare and is bound to greatly affect and inconvenience patients. It may even result in loss of valuable lives which is unacceptable, unfortunate and completely avoidable.
From the side of the State Government taking cognizance of the serious matter and upon being informed about the shutdown by the agitating doctors- I have taken up the matter strongly with officials of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to resolve the matter.
Letters have also been sent from my side to the Director of NEIGRIHMS and agitating doctors to resolve all issues and desist from such extreme action which would result in difficulties to patients.
“Upon my appeal I have been informed that there is normal functioning of NEIGRIHMS with little disruption. I would like to appeal to all agitating doctors to desist from shutdown”.
” I can assure that their grievances would be addressed at the earliest. Only a few months back Health Minister had met Shri J.P.Nadda Union Minister along with Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya in his office chamber in New Delhi and the Hon’ble Union Health Minister has assured that he would take action to resolve the outstanding issues of NEIGRIHMS”.
“As such, I again appeal to all to desist from strike or shutdown in NEIGRIHMS in the interest of the patients. I have already had a meeting with the agitating Resident Doctors and they have decided to call off the strike after the meeting in my Chamber”. Said Meghalaya Health Minister in the press statement today.
