AJYWO urges NHAI for more speed-breakers and other road-safety measures along NH-6

Khliehriat, January 29: Concerning about the life-safety of the pedestrians and commuters along the NH-6, the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) Central Body, in its press statement urges the NHAI and its implementing agency, the GR Infra Project Ltd and the two District Administrations of Jaintia Hills to install more speed-breakers and other road safety measures along all the life-risky zones of the NH-6, the highway being under construction at present.

“With the improvement on the present condition of the NH-6 in terms of smoothness and wideness comparing to the old fashioned NH-44, the vehicles are seen plying now at high speed due to the better condition of the highway now. But, this present condition of the highway also poses many dangerous threats to pedestrians and commuters as the highway passes through many road crossing points, sharp curves, deep gorges, deep valleys, residential areas and public places like schools, offices, churches, temples, banks, markets, etc. Therefore, even though, it is a highway, speed-breakers and more safety road measures like signage, signals, rumble strips  and rumble stripes are badly in need at present along the stretches of NH-6 that pass through all  such risky areas for the safety of all pedestrians and commuters” said M.H Dkhar President AJYWO Central Body.

Dkhar also added, “As most of the stretches of NH-6 pass through rural residential and few semi-town areas, where safety road-crossing  methods and safety footpaths are not yet available as compared to the other advanced states in India, so, for the safety of pedestrians especially students and young ones who cross the road daily, the AJYWO urges the NHAI and its Implementing Agency, GR Infra Project Ltd along with the intervention of the two District Administrations of the region to go for more speed-breakers and other road safety measures in all the life risky and sensitive locations that the said highway passes through”.

“Life of a person is much more precious than anything else. So, even though NH-6 is a National Highway but, we, the public of the region where, the highway passes through, are still ready to bear the slightly disturbances caused due to the presence of such speed-breakers or other road safety devices installed or to be installed along all the sensitive locations of the highway. Though our travelling time is delayed a bit, with the inbuilt of such road safety measures but, to bear with anything thing for saving some one’s life is more important than our delayed journey.” M. H Dkhar said.

M.H Dkhar also said, “The presence of the existing speed-breakers and other present road safety signals has saved lives at present upto a great extent. Therefore, criticism on the presence of such road safety measures along the highway is not accepted. In this regard, we warmly thanks the NHAI, its Implementing Agency and the District Administrations of the region for responding to the cry of the public for immediate installing of such road safety measures along the NH-6 for life-safety.

Bah Dkhar also further stated, “For a more safety NH-6, the AJYWO in the interest of all pedestrians and commuters, we urge the NHAI through its contractor and the two District Administrations in the region to immediately also install more road-safety measures like signage, signals, rumble strips  and rumble stripes in all the life risky zones of the said highway to indicate in advance to the pedestrians and commuters the presence of such risky zones or speed-breakers ahead”.

“The AJYWO also urges the NHAI and the District Administration of the region to speed up in releasing the compensation of all the affected parties due to construction of the NH-6, so that the this main life-line of the region and the Northeast India could be completed at the earliest possible time” Dkhar concluded the press statement.
