Shillog, June 02: As an aid to Civil authorities, on the requisition of State Administration, Army carried out flag march at 2245 hrs in disturbed areas of Shillong under Command and Control of Lt Gen DS Ahuja , AVSM, GOC 101 Area.
Over 100 fully armed troops and 8 vehicles were deployed in Flag March, which helped to bring the situation under control. No more flag marches have been planned by army.
Prior to this at around 2000 hrs , over 300 civilians including 200 women and children from disturbed areas of Shillong walked into army cantonment, taking advantage of open roads , at Shillong with intention of taking shelter .
They were later escorted to Rhino training Center at Garrison Ground where they were provided with food water and blankets by Army, to stay overnight .Lt Gen Ahuja too interacted with them and oversaw the arrangements. They left the Cantonment Area later in the morning.
