Art and Culture Minister Mr Ronnie assured the full size statue of ‘U Tirot Sing’ at Mariang

Art and Culture minister Mr R V Lyngdoh.Mairang, July 17: The Hima nongkhlaw today commemorate the 182 years death anniversary of U Tirot Sing at Mairang. The Hima Nongkhlaw along with other clans of the Khasis pays their tribute to this ferocious warrior by placing flowers at his monuments in Mairang. This beautiful ceremony was witness by many both the people from mairang and its neighboring localities, governments officials including Mr.Ronnie V Lyngdoh who is the minister of arts and culture, Mr. Kennedy Khyriem who is the parliamentary secretary officers, Schools and colleges representatives of Mairang.

Speaking on this auspicious day the chief guest Mr. Ronnie V Lyngdoh assured the people of Mairang that before the next year commemorate date the full size statue of ‘U Tirot Sing’ will be unveil  so that people from both the state and outsides can come and see it first hand and learn something from this great warrior the state has ever produced. He also urged the leaders the follow the ruling principles of Tirot Sing by putting the people priorities first before his.

Other speakers on this day was guest of honour Mr. Kennedy Khyriem stress on the importance of following the foot step of ‘U Tirot Sing’ by all in order to achieve great thing in life. He urged the people especially the school students to work hard and gives their best dedication to achieve success. Mean while the Khasi Student Union (KSU) of Mairang circle felicitates the meritorious students in their respective examination to encourage them to work hard.

The commemoration day was concluded by traditional songs and dances competition among the schools and colleges of Mairang and archery competition among the people who attended the function. The schools and colleges who attended the function were Mairang Presbyterian School, St Thomas secondary School, Mairang Presbyterian Science College, Tirot Sing Memorial College, Mairang Presbyterian Academy School,  Mairang Presbyterian English Secondary School and Khatsaw Phra Secondary School.
