As Christians should learn to love our own people and culture: Rev. Syiemlieh

Shillong Sept 21: Along with the rest of the world,  Martin Luther Christian University  observed the International Day of Peace in the University campus with programme which included a skit and a talk by the Principal of the John Roberts Theological Seminary, Mawklot, Rev BJ Syiemlieh on September 21, 2018.

The event was organized by the Department of Christian Studies and Peace Initiatives in the presence of Dr. GC Kharkongor, the Chancellor of the university, Dr MB Marwein, Registrar, and students, faculty from other departments of the University.

The speaker on the day was the Rev. BJ Syiemlieh who stressed on the fact that we as humans and most importantly as Christians should learn to love our own people and culture but not to let that love despises those who are different from us and their choices.

He added that we all have to learn from history that peace is the only way where nations can grow and development can happen with another group suffering for it.

He also quoted the great American apostle of peace, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s approach towards the hate that his people received from the white supremacists in his own country, and how Dr. King used the Bible teachings of love and peace to fight for civil rights f the African-American people.

He concluded by stating that our Conflicts and our inability to co-exists with each others’ differences  will not affect only us about also other innocent people and even our future generations.

The programme also included a skit by the students on the difference of Peace and Conflicts and how people need to learn to avoid conflicts and live a peaceful life.
