Assam Govt has stopped construction work of the BPO at Umru in Ri Bhoi District :Conrad

Shillong, April 05: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mr. Conrad K. Sangma today told the state Assembly that Assam Government has stopped all the construction work of the Border Police Outpost at Umru area on the border of Ri Bhoi District in Meghalaya and Karbi Anglong District in Assam after the Chief Secretaries talk of the two states on the 22nd March, 2018.

Replying to the Call Attention Notice tabled by an Opposition member belonging  to Congress, Mr. George Lyngdoh of Umroi Constituency, who wanted to know the state Government’s action on the setting up of Border Police Outpost at Umru area by Assam Government, Mr. Sangma said the state Government was deep concerned about the Assam authorities intention of establishing a Border Police Outpost in the area, which falls under Raij Nongtung.

The Chief Minister informed the House that the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District was in touch with the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong District on the matter. Mr. Sangma also informed the House that the confederation of village headmen of Raij  Nongtung had protested the construction of Border Police Outpost by Assam and the construction work of the Border Police Outpost was stop from the 23rd March, 2018 after the matter was taken by the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya and Assam on the 22nd March, 2018.

Raising the issue, which was published in the local vernacular daily newspaper “U Nongsain  Hima”, Mr. George Lyngdoh apprised the House of Assam Government’s attitude to erect structures on the inter-state boundary and urged the state Government to take action.
