Shillong, July 26: Mizoram U-19 Girls football team brought laurels to the State of Mizoram by winning inter State girls U-19 football tournament organised by Assam Rifles at Kohima. The team was prepared by Aizawl Battalion of Assam Rifles-23 Sector Assam Rifles headquarter IGAR Eastern for four week.
The talented girls team of Mizoram continued its winning streak throughout the tournament by defeating Nagaland and Assam in preliminary knockout stage and semifinals respectively.
In finals the team comprehensively defeated Sikkim by a margin of three goals to nil. A felicitation ceremony was organised at Aizawl by Assam Rifles in which all the team members of the football team were felicitated by Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Honourable Sports Minister of Mizoram and Brig Vinod S, SM, VSM, Commander, 23 Sector Assam Rifles.
In the address, Chief guest highlighted that concerted efforts by Assam Rifles and Mizoram football club have showcased a model strategy to promote sports in the State and hence it is bearing the fruits of victory.
The proud team faculty including players expressed their sincere gratitude to authorities of Assam Rifles for earnest endeavours to promote football in the State of Mizoram.
