Shillong, Sept 28: In a joint operation , Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles East and the Customs Department Champhal recovered 1,66,950 kgs approximate of Areca Nuts worth approximately Rs 5,30,90,100/- in General Area Vanzau – Sazep, Champhai on 27 September 2021.
Ongoing smuggling of Areca Nuts is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, also known as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have been at the forefront in confronting the smuggling activities in Mizoram and elsewhere in the NorthEast .
