Shillong, Jan 18: The Border Security Force Continues with its anti-smuggling drive on The International Border with Meghalaya. The increase in smuggling attempts in 2019, do not show any sign of decline during the current year rather it is indicating towards phenomenal increase in such attempts.
The smugglers are continuing their daring bids to cross over the cattle to Bangladesh. The trucks loaded with cattle in large numbers are coming from the neighbouring state Assam.
The routes generally adopted by the smugglers are, Khanapara – Jowai- Sonapur; Khanpara-Ladrymbai-Rymbai;Khanapara-Shillong-Pynursla. Temporary ramps are made on the National Highways where these trucks are unloaded.
These cattle are kept in the thick forest and the smugglers on appropriate opportunity try to smuggle it into Bangladesh taking advantage of venerable patches of unfenced Border. The alert and vigil sentinels are continuslly foiled their attempts.
In Tura the cattle smugglers are transporting large numbers of cattle in the pertest of cattle farm and are often in possession of a No Objection Certificate issues by the local authorities. BSF HQ has approached the states authorities to authenticate the genuineness of these certificates.
During the current month, that is in the last 18 days, the cautious BSF troops deployed along the International Border with Meghalaya has apprehended 1348 cattle worth Rs 2,20,27,400/ . On interim night of 17th and 18th January, BSF seized 277 cattle from EJH and WJH.
These cattle were to be smuggled into Bangladesh. The vicious circle of recycling of seized auctioned cattle still continues and BSF again has take up the case of auctioning cattle away from the border belt.
In view of increasing smuggling attempts BSF has intensified its vigil and operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent the nefarious design of trans border criminals.
