Shillong, July 8: The inaugural launch of the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay took place at the I.G. Stadium, New Delhi on 19th June 2022 by the Prime Minister of India will reach and halt at Shillong on 9th July, 2022.
The official handling over of the Torch by Shri. Mitrba Guha, Grand Master to the Chief Guest will take place at the Indoor Stadium SAI, STC, NEHU Campus, Mawkynroh, Shillong on the 10th July at 8:00 AM.
It may be mentioned that the 44th edition of the Chess Olympiad has been awarded by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to the All India Chess Federation will be held at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu from 28th July to 9th August, 2022.
In this edition, FIDE has instituted the 1st ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay to mark the event being held in India, the land where chess originated. The Torch will travel across the country covering 75 iconic locations of the country as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebration.
