Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya inaugurated the Juvenile Homes at Mawkasiang

Shillong, July 07: The Commissioning of the Juvenile Homes cum Sensitization Programme on the Juvenile Justice Act was organized by the High Court of Meghalaya in collaboration with Social Welfare Department today at Mawkasiang (Mawdiangdiang), New Shillong where Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir was the Chief Guest.

Speaking at the function, the Chief Guest lauded the Social Welfare Department for its effort in the completion of the new Juvenile Homes which will have a direct impact on juveniles who are in need of care and protection.

“We are to ensure that a congenial atmosphere is provided to the children so that they can improve upon themselves and come back to the mainstream and be the future of our nation”, he added. He also urged upon the public to become responsible citizens and extend all possible assistance to those who are in need of care and protection.

Earlier, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya incharge of Social Welfare Department, Shri H. Marwein read out the brief history of the juvenile home.

Mawsynram MLA, Mr H. M. Shangpliang, Judge  and Chairman of Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of Meghalaya, Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. R. Sen, Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri Y. Tsering, Director General of Police, Meghalaya, Dr. S. B. Singh, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Social Welfare Department, Shri T. Dkhar were among others present at the function.
