CoMSO request Meghalaya Governor to gave assent to the MRSS Ordinance, 2019

Shillong, Nov 25: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisation (CoMSO) today sent the memorandum to Meghalaya Governor  Mr Tathagatha Roy requesting for his assent to the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019.

In the Memorandum the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisation (CoMSO) said that it was learn that the Government of Meghalaya was pleased to bring an Amendment to the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) 2016 vide Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019 and the same is pending before your esteem office for Assent.

In the memorandum CoMSO is  of the opinion that the said Ordinance will go a long way towards achieving the aim and objective of the Act for the safety and security of the residents of the State and also for the protection of the demographic structures of the State as a whole, which has been a long and genuine aspirations of the residents of the State.

The conglomeration of the NGOs under the banner CoMSO ,  are aware this exercise of the State Government in bringing out the Ordinance to the MRSSA was done with prior consultation with the legal experts and the Law department of the State and we are aware that various stakeholders (CSOs, Political parties, Traditional institutions and others) were also consulted.

CoMSO is  of the opinion that the proposed provision which make it mandatory for non-residents, who intends to stay beyond 24 hours in the State to furnish information will not affect the free movement of tourists or visitors as can be seen from the statements of the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Office as well as the statement of the Tourism Department, Meghalaya.

The memorandum that was submitted to the Governor was sign by Mr Robertjune Kharjahrin as Chairman and Mr Roykupar Synrem as Secretary of the Orgnaisation.
