Shillong, Sept 09: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting assembly of five or more persons within 500 metres of the Temporary Assembly Chamber at Rilbong, Shillong and a radius of 100 metres of the Meghalaya Secretariat Main and Additional Building and carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons or any other items/materials having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person or persons.
This Order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.This Order is necessitated following reports that some NGOs are likely to hold a protest by displaying placards in front of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Building during the Autumn Session which may lead to serious law and order problems resulting into breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquillity, a riot or any affray and danger to human life, health and safety and may result into loss of life and property unless prevented.
