Double century from Rohit Meghalaya score  405 against Sikkim in U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy

Shillong, Dec 17: After reaching his century yesterday, Rohit Shah went one better in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, today by hitting a double century, which helped take Meghalaya to a first innings score of 405 against Sikkim on the second day of their U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy plate group match.

Shah, who resumed his innings today on 132, added another 68 runs to reach his double ton, but fell just two deliveries later for exactly 200.

Shah’s mighty innings contained 15 fours. He received plenty of support today from captain Akash Kumar, who hit 74 lower down the order.

Kumar’s wicket was the last to fall and that left Sikkim having to face a few uncomfortable overs before stumps.

Sikkim’s openers weathered seven overs without loss and scored two runs. Meghalaya will hope to bowl out Sikkim twice without having to bat again with two days remaining in the match.

Meanwhile, on the third day of the pre-quarterfinal in the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, Meghalaya went down by an innings and 474 runs to Maharashtra in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh.

Resuming on 27/2, Meghalaya were chasing Maharashtra’s massive first innings of 623/4 declared.

Unfortunately the bowling of Maharashtra was too much of a challenge for Meghalaya to weather and they were bowled out for 65 in the first innings (Josiah Momin the top scorer with 17) and then for 84 in the second when they were made to follow on (Sunvish Charak top-scored with 24 not out).

Although this pre-quarterfinal was very one-sided, nothing can be taken away from the incredible performance that the boys put in during the North East Zone, where they won all their matches to qualify for the pre-quarters.
