Dr Mukul inform the Assembly, sanction received for setting up Shillong Engineering College

Shillong, March 10: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma today assured the state Assembly that a Review Meeting would be held at Chief Minister’s level to strengthen the mechanism to fight crimes against women, children and also drug menace in the State.

Replying to the discussion on the Governor’s Address, Dr. Sangma said, he is pained to see increasing cases of atrocities against women and children and he would personally ensure that concrete steps are taken to stop such crimes.

Informing the House that steps have already been taken on the issue like reviving the Fast Track and Special Courts to try cases of women and children. Dr. Sangma said enacting the State Police Act would take some time to yield dividends.

On the growing drug menace in the State, the Government “would go” after the kingpin of such racket and also strengthen the Inspectorate of Drugs. Stating that the pharmacies have become the source of psychotropic drugs being sold illegally, the Chief Minister assured the House that regulation would be put at place after the Review Meeting.

In terms of regulation, Dr. Sangma said, the Inspectorate of Drugs would be directed to take stock record of the drugs in the pharmacies on a monthly basis and also ensure that psychotropic drugs are not sold without prescriptions.

In the Course of his replay to the debate on the governor address, the Chief Minister in floor of the house that sanction for setting up of the Shillong Engineering College in Shilong and the College of Urban planning and Architecture for Tura has been received.

The Chief Minister thank the members of the august house for their suggestion and whatever suggestion they made the government has take note of it, and he remind that the governor address reflect the programme and polices of the Government.
