Education policy will be framed soon Mr Conrad inform in the public gathering at Mawkyrwat

Shillong May 11: The Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mr. Conrad K. Sangma stressed the need for overall development of the region even as he stated that the education sector is a top priority of the present government.

Speaking on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Shngimawlein government Upper Primary School in Mawkyrwat the chief minister expressed happiness and satisfaction that the school is moving in the right direction which has been possible only through the hard work and dedication of the founding members of the school and various personalities which have helped elevate the school to its present status.

The school founded by teachers (L) Mr. Srallington Lyngdoh, (L) Wollendro Lyngdoh and (L) Dani Lyngdoh in 1968, annexed a new building constructed under the Rashtriya Madyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.

Inaugurating the new building in the presence of education minister, Shri. Lahkmen Rymbui, local M.L.A. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, dignitaries, officials, teachers and students, the chief minister said that there is no substitute for hard work and exhorted all to continue their untiring efforts to achieve even greater heights in imparting education to the youth of the area.

Stating that the education sector has a lot of challenges ahead of it the chief minister said that maximum effort has to be given by the all stake holders to improve education especially the teachers and parents of students.

The Government is working tirelessly “to ensure that the right policy comes out”. The education policy will be framed soon and ‘it will give a new direction on how we should move ahead in terms of education sector in our state’. The policy will give guidelines “and allow us to move forward in a way so that the education sector grows stronger and stronger as we move forward”, he added.

On his first ever visit to South West Khasi Hills after assuming the office of the Chief Minister, Mr. Conrad K.  Sangma said “there are certain areas and regions and districts in our state that really do need special attention and special care”.

Drawing attention to the deplorable road condition in South West Khasi Hills and other regions of the state he said that his government is already in talks with the centre in order boost inter district and interstate connectivity.

Later in the day the Chief Minister attended the felicitation programme organised by the people of South West Khasi Hills in the School Hall of the Nativity Secondary School, Mawkyrwat.

The programme was attended by Education minister Mr.Lahkmen Rymbui, Local MLA Mawkyrwat constituency Shri Renikton Lyngdoh, Local MLA of Ranikor constituency, ex MLA Mawkyrwat Shri. Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills Smti I. Laloo, other government, heads of various organizations and people of Mawkyrwat.
