Election Commissioner of India ban on carrying of mobile phones inside Polling Stations

Shillong, Feb 23: The Election Commission of India has issued instructions for ensuring strict compliance in respect of poll day where no person is allowed to either carry or use mobile phones, cordless phones, wireless sets etc., in 100 meter perimeter of the polling stations described as the “polling station neighbourhood” and within the polling booth especially by voters.

Only Observers, Micro Observers, Presiding Officers and security personnel are allowed to carry mobile phones but they should keep their mobile phones in silent mode.

The above instructions are to be strictly enforced and complied with, in view of the apprehension amongst many, that voters misuse their mobile phones inside the voting compartment, while casting their votes.
