Five officials of the High Court of Meghalaya Registry have been tested COVID-19 positive

Shillong, August 10: In the wake of several irresponsible, baseless and frivolous rumours being circulated, particularly in the social media, it is clarified that five officials of the High Court Registry have been tested COVID-19 positive and are under the advice of medical professionals and the State Health Department.

These officials are asymptomatic and otherwise healthy. For the present, they are undergoing self isolation at the High Court Guest House. They are being monitored round the clock. Owing to the nature of their duties, a thorough enquiry was conducted and after such enquiry, it has been ascertained and confirmed that they have not come into contact with any other person inside or outside the High Court.

That apart, there are baseless rumours floating, particularly in the social media, that guests of the High Court have flouted COVID health protocol. All guests of the High Court have strictly adhered to the standard COVID health protocol as determined by the State Government, including getting themselves tested immediately on their arrival in Shillong and maintaining all quarantine/social distance norms, etc.

However, the need to sanitise the High Court premises arose since it is a public place and so that the strictest COVID health protocol is adhered to, not only in order to protect the officers and employees of the High Court, but also the members of the public at large.

Consequently, the High Court Administration ordered for a complete lockdown of the High Court premises for 3 (three) days, w.e.f 10th August, 2020 to 12th August, 2020 both days inclusive.

This press statement is being issued only to scotch all irresponsible, baseless and frivolous rumours which are floating around, particularly in the social media. It is also a warning for all those who are responsible for spreading such rumours that they will be proceeded against and appropriately dealt with in accordance with law, once they are identified. Said Register General High Court of Meghalaya.
