For the first time in the History of martial arts Kurash was first introduced in the state

Shillong, September 26: For the first time in the History of Martial Arts in the State, martial arts Kurash was first introduced in the style and form of 1st Under 20 Years Open East Khasi Hills Inter School-College Championship 2016 for Men, Women, Boys and Girls respectively organized by Meghalaya Kurash Association under the auspices of Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Meghalaya.

There are altogether 83 Kurash athletes of 51 boys and 32 girls from 11 Schools and other martial arts club in Shillong. Taking not of the Motto of Meghalaya Kurash Association is Healthy, Strong, Sportive and Supportive, the Theme of this Championship is “Sports As An Agenda For Employment Generation, Skill Development & Healthcares”.

While giving the key note address on Kurash which means in Uzbekistan as “reaching the goal with the just or fair ways”, the Working President of MKA Shri Lorenzo Pearson Warjri in form the young athletes that Kurash is an ancient national martial art with roots going back to many thousand years. Kurash is the essence of traditions and philosophy of the Uzbek people – “humanism and courage, respect to opponent and ability to go till the aim is reached”.

Today at the inaugural function of the 1st Under 20 Years Open East Khasi Hills Inter School-College Championship 2016 for Men, Women, Boys and Girls, the Chief Guest Mr J R Marak, Dy. Director Directorate of Sports & Affairs appreciates the role taken up of Meghalaya Kurash Association to introduce such new games of Martial Art Kurash in the State in the presence of Sports Officer Headquarter Mri S. Sharma.

He emphasis that sports help us in starting new things at early age that will help us to dedicate, choosing and focus on the goal we have and want to set in our life. He mentioned that it’s good young children comes forward for this kind of Games as there is lots of issue out of this for wellness, fitness of the body, employment avenues and skill development through sports and games. Shri J R Marak wished all the best.

Brigadier William sturgeon who is currently Director of SF-10 Commando of Meghalaya Police, while deliver his speech on Sports & Employment with respect to martial art athletes, he informed the youngster that there is lot of scope for employment avenues with police, armed forces like army, navy, air force, commando for those who really know the art of martial art.

He said there’s a lot of concession and consideration if martial arts applied for such job in respect of height, weight and chest pump expansion in comparison to others who doesn’t fall under sports quota. The message he gave to young children is that we have to conquer self first while doing anything as self is one of the best enemy of our self. That’s why sports and games helps us to strong and always tough, sturdy and ready in life to face any kind of challenges in life.

Mr. Warjri reminded the martial art athletes that being fit, healthy, strong and sportive, a martial art athlete or sports person have a major role to play in healthcare’s especially to issue of blood donation, taking care of oneself and showing others on how to reduce medical expenditures by keeping themselves fit all throughout while playing sports like martial art and others too.

The 1st Under 20 Years Open East Khasi Hills Inter School-College Championship 2016 for Men, Women, Boys and Girls respectively will come to an end today.
