Governor of Meghalaya flag Half Marathon organized by the BSF in honour of martyrs

Shillong, October 28: The Border Security Force organized a Half Marathon to pay homage to BSF Martyrs of Meghalaya and felicitate their families at Mawpat, Shillong, East Khasi Hills distt­­­­ of Meghalaya. There was huge turnover of participants in the event which was open for all categories for male and females.

About 600 participants from all walks of life from Meghalaya including athletes, border population, Border guards, policemen and senior citizen participated in the run. The event of 21 Kms run was flagged off by Shri Ganga prasad Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya from BSF campus Mawpat and passed through Golf link – Mawlai – Garikhana – Rilbong- Civil Hospital – Governor House – Nongmynsong – Iserwat and culminated at Mawpat, Shillong.

HC Anish Thapa from Gorkha Regiment Training Centre(GTC) Shillong won the event with a timing of 1 hour, 17 minutes and 13 seconds. He expressed his satisfaction in winning the marathon when competition was tough. 1st and 2ndRunner up was won by Rifle man Krishna Bahadur Thapa with a timing of 1 hour, 17 minutes and 50 seconds and  L/NK Chitra Bhadur Thapa with a neck to neck timing of 1 hour, 18 minutes and 15 seconds. Other Top runner were also facilitated with consolation prize money.

The women section was dominated by participants of Meghalaya Police(SF-10). Miss Siba Syngkli (SF 10 ), secured 1st position with a timing of 2 hours, 02 minutes and 47 seconds,  Miss Amelish Nongrum (SF 10 ) secured second position with a timing of 2 hours, 05 minutes and 42 seconds and Miss Daphira Rani(SF 10)  with a timing of  2 hours, 13 minutes and 02 seconds.

The Marathon was open for all age group above 18 years. Mr. Ksanbor, 58 years was the oldest participant and was facilitated with prize money by Shri Dinesh Maheshwari, Chief Justice High Court of Meghalaya.

During the programme, Shri Gangaprasad, Honble Governor of Meghalaya lauded the duties performed and efforts by the sentinels of border, without caring for their personal comfort inspite of hardships due to remoteness of the location, extreme climatic conditions and honoured the martyrs by his reflection and heart touching poems on martyrs.

Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chief Justice High Court of Meghalaya expressed his love and emotional attachment with the natural beauty and pleasant climate of Shillong and stress on the importance of physical fitness. The Chief Justice distributed the prizes to the winners.

Mr P K Dubey, Inspector General, Meghalaya Frontier BSF congratulated the participants for completion of daring and enduring 21 kms run. There was strong security arrangements by Border Security Force and local police throughout the route for the run.
