Shillong, July 24: The residence of Syntein villages has got the unique knowledge in the field of making handicraft of various type from the bamboo that is available within the area for generation without getting any training but this technique has pass down from generation to generation till now the government realized that this people need only to teach them only on quality.
In the past few years the state government along with the Asian development Bank has made a tie up with the IIT Guwahati haw to train this artisan from this are to produce quality handicraft without using any modern technology like that in the state of Tripura where handicraft is made with the help of machine in splitting the bamboo.
The Department of Commerce and Industry government of Meghalaya with the assistance from the ADB through it project skill development, has tie up with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahahti they have tried to tie up with Flip Card or the Amazon to sale online the handicraft that produce fron Syntein area.
The Syntein area comprise of the five village, Mawkaphan, Dongskong, Jympait, Kenbah and Kenmensaw clubbing them together kown as Syntein, in which the residence of this village has taken this handicraft making as additional sources of Income particularly during the rainy season where agricultural activities stop.
Making of handicraft are mainly women and children, particularly the residence of Kenbah and Kenmensaw are having their special skill in making many items that was seen in the market in the capital, Shillong.
