HFU thank the Government for passing the Meghalaya Farmers Commission Bill,2019

Shillong, Sept 14: Mr  Commander Shangpliang President of the Hill Farmers Union (HFU) Central body, on behalf of the union  thanks and appreciation to the MDA government under the leadership of Mr  Conrad Sangma as the  Chief Minister and shri Banteidor Lyngdoh Agriculture Minister for having passed the Meghalaya Farmers (Empowerment) Commission Bill, 2019.

The Union had demanded before the government to setup the farmers Commission in the state after the 1st Meghalaya Farmers Parliament being held last year during the month of December. The Union had submitted the ten point charter of demands before the government including the demand to setup the farmer commission, to declare 2019 as year of the farmers, to come up with the Agriculture Policy etc.

The Union would like to request the chief Minister and the Minister of Agriculture to address the ten point charter of demand one after another. The Union urge the Chief Minister to give priority to the farming sector as majority of the population in the state depend on agriculture. He said that the government cannot claim that the state is develop until the farming community is taken care of.

HFU President Commander Shangpliang said that the Union this year will held the 2nd Meghalaya Farmers Parliament in Tura, Garo Hill.  He said that after the Farmers Parliament in  Tura the Union will submit the memorandum to the Government pertaining to the issues concern the Garo Hill Region.
