Hundreds of Youth Congress from NE march to Union Home Miniter to protest the CAB,2016

Shillong, Feb 01: We’ll continue our fight against Citizenship Amendment 2016. Said Mr. Richard M Marak, President Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress.

Today hundreds of Youth Congress from North East States march towards the residence of Union Home Minister Shri. Rajnath Singh at New Delhi in protest and oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.

The marched was led by the PYC Presidents of all the North East States and from different parts of the country.

In the protest Shri. Richard M Marak, President Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress along with his members and hundreds of youths from the North East have been arrested and take to Mandir Marg Police Station, New Delhi.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 is a highly divisive & discriminatory bill that contradicts the govt’s actions with NRC in Assam.

The implications of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (2016) are wide-ranging and need to be looked into not only from the lens of the state of Assam (as is the case right now) but through its wider implications for the Indian polity especially it’s incongruity with the inherently secular nature of the Indian state and Constitution.

The Indigenous Garo, Khasi, Jaintia people have traditional customary, residence and citizenship laws.

We the indigenous peoples of North-East India are concerned with preserving our land, protecting our language and promoting our culture. Let us continue to protect and preserve our identity.

Meghalaya Youth Congress will fight till our last breath against the unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Bill, said Mr. R. Marak
