Shillong, Jan 06: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) strongly opposes the move of the NDA Government to pass the Citizenship (Ammendment) Bill 2016, which is aimed at granting citizenship to people belonging to minority communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The passage of this Bill will only add fuel to the already raging influx issue and would legitimise all the illegal migrants who have been staying illegally for many years and will have an adverse impact on the demographic structure of the state.
This is not acceptable. It is totally against the interest of our microscopic indigenous community. The KHNAM strongly demands that this Bill should not be applicable in the whole of North East India.
Therefore, as a mark of protest against the NDA Government, the KHNAM fully supports the agitation called by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) on 8th January 2019 and calls upon the public and other like minded parties to fully support the same.
In this regard, the KHNAM is also convening an all party meeting tomorrow the 7th January 2019 at Shillong Club at 2 pm to deliberate on the matter and calls upon all political parties who are against this Bill to kindly attend .
