Latiam villagers exposed to scientific beekeeping techniques organized by ICAR

Shillong, March 24: The ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Umiam has been conducting several programmes for the farming community to improve the livelihood, women empowerment and efforts towards doubling the farmer’s income.

Training cum demonstration programme on ‘Scientific Beekeeping’ was organized recently at Entomology farm of the institute. Twenty eight beekeeping farmers from Latiam village (Sohra sub division) were selected for this programme. Traditionally these farmers are adopting local techniques of rearing bees, which are less economical and non-scientific.

This particular scientific beekeeping programme aimed to deliver and demonstrate scientific techniques of beekeeping. Dr Sandip Patra, Dr. G. T. Behere and Dr. D.M. Firake coordinated this training cum demonstrations programme.

All the trainees were also been provided with Scientific beekeeping literature, seeds of bee flora, Modern bee boxes and accessories to strengthen their livelihood.
