Loreto Convent School win the “Fr. Sngi memorial Youth Fest” drama competition

Drama perform by the Loreto School.Laitumukhrah, October 15: A grand Inter-School Talent Competition based on the Gospel and the Culture, was organized here for the ‘Young Catholic Students’ (YCS) with the theme YOUGO (Youth & Gospel) where 600 students participated from15 Schoolsin and around of Shillong. Sacred Heart Theological College Mawlai, the students-in-charge of YCS movement successfully hosted Fr. Sngi memorial Youth Fest here at St. Mary’s Montessori School.

The YOUGO talent competition kicked off with the inauguration byMr.EmbhahSyiemlieh, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Meghalaya. Mr.Syiemlieh, in his inaugural speech encouraged the youths to imitate Don Bosco who is an exemplary icon for all.

He also added, “We should be like Fr. SylvanusSngiLyngdoh, to whom whole Khasi people remember today. His contribution to the society is immense. Like him we ought to spread the good work in the society. But for all these we need to put a solid foundation in education, so aim high, study well and achieve your goal.”

“Commemorating the legacy left behind for the Khasi hills by Fr.Sngi a great author, exorcist and political and social thinker of north eastern India, we are remembering him and his great work through this event. Young students are capable of becoming a great person like Fr. Sngi and this programme may become a spark of inspiration for youths,” said Br. Cheriat Jose,YCS coordinator.

YCS is a movement for Catholic students in schools, where they are given a platform to build their personality, so as to become faithful and honest citizens. Students are assisted through timely animations and programmes conducted by the resource persons.

A day long competitive programmes occupied the audience. The students had the opportunity to showcase their calibre creatively through a single item but the mixture of drama, songs and dances etc.

Loreto Convent School Laitumukhrah, secured the first place in the talent competition among 15 schools, Little Flower School, Malki and St. Francis School, Smith were first and second runners up respectively.

The active participation of the students added a colour to the fest and a neck and neck competition thrilled the audience to watch the young and budding talents on the stage.
