Material, labourers was airlifted to Vijayanagar ALG for the repair in Arunachal Pradesh

Shillong, Jan 20: The Vijaynagar ALG (Advance  Landing Ground) is situated in Arunachal Pradesh.   This place is not connected with any motorable road.  The ALG is not fit for operations by fixed wing aircraft since the year 2016.  Indian Air Force has taken up a project to repair the same.  All the material and  labourers has to be airlifted to Vijayanagar for the repair.

The  repair work involves cleaning of runway surface on which grass and moss had accumulated due to non utlisitation of surface over a long duration.  This task required large number of people as it is manpower oriented.  In an unprecedented move the villegers of 11 villages of local area of Vijayanagar came forward volunteering to help Air Force authorities to undertake this task by carrying out “Sharmdaan”.

The repair work by the specialised  team  has already commenced and the material is being transported to the ALG in phases. This move by villagers is highly appreciated and reflects the close connection of civil population has with the IAF where it operates.
