Shillong, June 26: The three days ‘State level Workshop on Mathematics for Upper Primary School Teachers of Meghalaya’ was inaugurated today by the Meghalaya Education Minister, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui at the Conference Hall, Shillong College, Shillong.

The workshop is being organised jointly by the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, Meghalaya (SCSTE) and the Mathematics Department, Shillong College, Shillong. The objective of the programme is to train and build up the concept of Mathematics among the target groups and to make Mathematics learning more interesting and fun for the students.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Mr Lahkmen Rymbui said that mathematics is an important subject and plays an integral part in our day to day lives. Owing to the poor foundation in mathematics, the performance of our students in this subject is very low.

In Order  to encourage and motivate our students to take up mathematics with a more positive approach, workshops such as these will equip our teachers with innovative ideas and techniques which in turn will enable them to teach our students in a more interesting manner, he said.

Member Secretary, SCSTE, Mr Cyril V. D. Diengdoh and Principal, Shillong College, Dr. M. Dey was also present during the inaugural programme. Head, Division of Educational Kits, NCERT, New Delhi, Dr. Ashutosh K. Wazalwar, Deputy Director, DERT, Shri P. B. Lartang, Associate Professor, Shillong College, Shri S. Kharchandy and Assistant Professor, Shillong College, Smti J. Rivulet Gidon will be resource persons for the three-day workshop.
