Meghalaya Education Policy was notified in 2008 when a non-Congress govt in power: Manas

Shillong, March 16: The former Education Minister Mr Manas Chaudhuri said that “ I am intrigued and bemused by the oft repeated statements appearing in the media that Meghalaya has no Education Policy of its own. Even our new Chief Minister Conrad Sangma mouthed such a statement”. He said.

The former education minister said “I wish to place on record the fact that in 2008 when a non-Congress coalition was at the helm for barely a year, a well crafted Education Policy was duly notified. This was preceded by a hectic process of consultations with various stake holders, including legislators. The draft Policy was circulated before the council of ministers took a call on it”.

As the the Minister in charge Education, I recall that two minor amendments were proposed by Mr Conrad Sangma, the then Finance Minister and Mr Paul Lyngdoh, the then Urban Affairs Minister. After these amendments were incorporated, the cabinet unanimously adopted the state’s Education Policy the first of its kind.

The Chief Minister of the ruling conglomerate may cross these facts with the Education Department and put the records straight. Said Manas Chaudhuri ex- Minister for Higher and Technical Education in he press statement today.
