Shillong, November 11: The Meghalaya Government set borrowing limit to the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to an amount of Rs, 2500 cores. This was approved in the recent cabinet meeting.

The Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, said that if the government does not set the limit, it will be difficult for the MeECL a state own corporation to function. With this increased in the borrowing power by the MeECL it will help the corporation to equip themselves in all the three companies, in the Generation, Distribution and Transmission.

With this increase in the borrowing power of the MeECL, it will help the corporation to undertake any project without delay, in earlier cases all project get delay due to non availability of cash flow. This happens not only with the MeECL but with all government departments. To avoid cost overrun cash flow should not be stop.
