Meghalaya Governor  Mr Tathagata inaugurated photo exhibition, felicitates heroes of 1971 War

Shillong, Dec 17: The Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Tathagata Roy inaugurated a 5-day Integrated Photo Exhibition organised by the Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Indoor Stadium, JNS Complex, Shillong today.

The integrated exhibition on Saaf Niyat Sahi Vikas and Rare photographs of Mahatma Gandhi will be followed by Special Outreach Programmes on Flagship Schemes of the Government on December 19 and 20. The BOC has been created by merging the three offices of Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP) and Song & Drama Division (S&DD).

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Governor said that such creative awareness programmes are beneficial to the people of Meghalaya in general. The governor was speaking on celebration of Vijay Diwas at Tripura and West Bengal while noting the efforts of the organisers in celebrating the 1971 War.

The Governor felicitated 12 heroes of 1971 war from Meghalaya including Col. Jagdish Singh, Lt. Col. Martin Khongmen, Lt. Col. Narayan Thapa among others. He also gave away mementos to officers decorated with Sena Medal. Prizes to participants for Photography and Painting competitions held by BOC were also given.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of the government in strengthening the information machinery in the entire North-East through its Act East policy. He opined that this move will increase awareness and outreach of the government till the last person.
While highlighting the efforts of the Ministry in strengthening the information dissemination in the  region, Director General Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia mentioned that the PIB and BOC offices
in the North-East have now been provided with dedicated internet connectivity, videoconferencing facilities as well as Biometric devices for better coordination.

Shri Dhatwalia added that the current mega exhibition is an attempt in synchronising all activities of the Ministry in an integrated manner  to convert the information have-nots into informed and empowered citizen. The inaugural event was  also attended by senior officials of Doordarshan, All India Radio, Directorate of Sainik Welfare and  Ministry of Defence. The exhibition has infographics in Khasi, Garo and Pnar languages in addition to English and Hindi.

A special pavilion consisting of rare photographs of Mahatma Gandhi has also been put on display. The exhibition will remain open to public till 21st December and the entry is free of cost.
Earlier on sunday, a Vijay Diwas rally was organised by BOC Guwahati region on 16th December in collaboration with  Ministry of Defence and National Cadet Corps from Center Point till War Memorial.
