Meghalaya Govt decided to plant 1million saplings of trees on the 2019 World Environment Day

Shillong, May 27: Every year since 5th June ,1974 till today the World Environment Day  is being celebrate with the objective to create awareness among the people around the globe the need to preserve and protect our environment from further  destruction by planting a large number of  saplings with million and trillion of them.

The question we can ask ourselves how many of these saplings do really survive and grow. The Government of Meghalaya has decided to plant 1million saplings on the 2019  World  Environment Day .

The United Nations Environment Programme since its inception on 5th June, 1972 due to the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment has taken various steps to encourage member’s countries to urge all government to take the initiatives to create awareness to all the citizens the need to combat the issues that threatened the very existing of all living organisms especially different kinds of pollution that cause  climate change and global warming.

Planting of saplings are very much welcome so as to tackle the excess of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere which affects the Greenhouse Effect and thereby climate change and global warming. The important point here is that, we must make sure that all saplings we plant every year should yields result by seeing them grow accordingly.

The impact of Climate change and Global warming has been felt across the globe. To urge the governments of different nations to take immediate action to combat this, Swedish teenage activist Greta Thunberg  has emerged as a leading figure of the Fridays for Future movement a network of young climate protesters.

On 24th May 2019 in our state capital Shillong too,  students have take the initiatives as part of the movement to awake the society and the authority  the dangers of Global warming and Climate change. According to scientists they say Global warming caused by heat trapping greenhouse gases from burning of fossil fuels has already led to drought and heatwaves, melting glaciers, rising sea levels and floods .

People should cultivate the habit to  make a practice to plant at least 5-10 saplings for every cutting of one tree without thinking only for his own benefit in interest business but should think for better tomorrow too ,  human greediness should be within the limit so that the ecological imbalance in atmosphere could be resolved.

Government spend lots of time, energy and resources every now and then   to preserve and protect our environment like what our forefathers have done in the past but unless each one of us take  active participation and develop the spirit to be part of the iniatives, it is not going to be successful.

The need of the hour is that, people should realise that our daily activities for our convenience do affects us in return in the form of different pollutions,  therefore we must be part of  the  initiative to remove such problem for us own welfare in the field of health and other issues.

May the celebration of this year World Environment Day on 5th June by United Nations Environment Programme along with Government of different countries including India  and NGOs with the theme “Beat Air Pollution “, will bear fruits in the mind of the people and not just for the sake of celebration. It is the duty of you and me and all of us not only the UNEP, Government , community  or NGOs  to preserve and protect our Environment for the interest of the living organisms at present and future generations.
