Meghalaya lost seven-wicket to Railways in the U-25 Men State A Trophy in Chandigarh

Shillong, Nov 23: Meghalaya suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Railways in the U-25 Men State A Trophy in Chandigarh today. After winning the toss, Meghalaya chose to bat first but were dismissed for 92 in 33.1 overs, which Railways chased down in just 12 overs.

Of the top eight batters, only Jaskirat Singh hung around long enough to make 13 and Meghalaya were reduced to 30/8 and staring at an ignominiously low total.

However, Numbers 9, 10 and 11 – Bipin Kr Ray (16), Sudhir Sahani (24) and Manish Sharma (15 not out) – were able to add another 62 runs for the ninth and tenth wickets and that got Meghalaya to 92.

Railways looked like they wanted to reach their destination ahead of schedule and plundered 55 runs from the first four overs before they lost their opening wicket.

Two more fell in the process but Railways were still able to achieve the modest target with plenty of overs to spare. Meghalaya’s Agreas Chamcham Sangma picked up 2/18 and Manish 1/23. Meghalaya will have several days rest before taking on Pondicherry on 27 November.
