Meghalaya lost their U-25 Men State A Trophy one day match to Karnataka in Mohali

Shillong, Nov 30: Meghalaya lost their U-25 Men State A Trophy one day match to Karnataka by nine wickets in Mohali, Punjab, yesterday.

In Meghalaya’s penultimate match of the tournament, Karnataka won the toss and opted to field first, eventually dismissing Meghalaya for 82 in 31 overs. They then chased this down for the loss of one wicket in 19.2 overs.

After losing the top three batters for just 11 runs on the board, Kevin Christopher (13) and Md Asif Khan (22) strung a 36-run partnership together but that proved to be the only real highlight as Meghalaya lost their last seven wickets for just 35 runs.

In the chase, Lokesh Turaha effected a run out but that was Karnataka’s only wicket to fall in what was a fairly easy win for them.

Although Meghalaya have lost all five of their matches so far, they are doing comparatively well compared to the other North East sides (apart from the more established Assam and Tripura) in the tournament.

Meghalaya have a net run rate of -3.268 in Group D, higher than any of the other regional sides who are divided among the other four groups.  Meghalaya’s final match will be against Kerala on 1 December.
