Meghalaya police enforce COPTA Act, penalize people who smoke in public places

Shillong, Nov 12: The Shillong Sardar Police Station in a drive to enforce the COPTa Act today penalise people who smoke in public palaces. The police has compounded four persons at Police Bazar and today six persons at Jail Road.

All this people were fine of Rs.200 each under section 4 of the Cigarettes  and others  Tobacco Products Act 2003 which prohibit people from smoking in public places.

The Superintendent of police East Khasi Hills District also inform that  numbers of pillion riders in the District has increased in order to avoid fatality the police requsted the two wheelers rider to were helmets while riding for there safty.

The Shillong Traffic Police will conduct   will conduct awareness drive on wear of helmets for both the riders and the pillion riders till 30th November 2020.Any violation after that they will be book under section 194 D of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019.
