Meghalaya Speaker urged upon citizens to reap the benefits of various social security’s like MHIS

Mairang, April 22: As part of the commemoration of the 4th anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat- Health and Wellness Centres in Meghalaya which forms part of the observation of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav- India @75 .

The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, in collaboration with the office of the Block Medical and Health Officer, Mairang Block today organized a Block Health Mela at Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission, Mairang.

The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker and Local MLA, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh attended as Chief Guest in the presence of the Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, Pa’iem P. M Syiemlieh, Deputy Commissioner, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Shri W. Nongsiej,  Superintendent of Police of the District, Shri M.B Syiem, line department officials, traditional heads, students and others.

During his address at the programme, Meghalaya Assembly Speaker, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh, while speaking on the celebration of 75 years of India’s Independence and Meghalaya’s 50 years of Statehood.

The celebration provides an opportunity to recall the sacrifices made by freedom fighters of the country even as he stated that the celebration is an occasion to also celebrate the strides made by the state and country in different spheres and sectors of development.

While speaking on the Health Mela which is a programme organized by the Health Department as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Shri Lyngdoh appealed to the gathering to accord top priority to health and wellness in day to day life even as he said that the value of health is often realized only when one falls ill.

On the occasion, Shri Lyngdoh also urged upon citizens to reap the benefits of various social security schemes including the MHIS, NFSA and others even as he appealed to all to encourage others who are yet to register themselves under the schemes.

During the one day Health Mela, stalls including those for medical screening by different specialists for pregnant mothers, children, those with dental, ear, nose and throat ailments and stalls for TB, BP & Diabetes screening were set up.

The other highlights of the Mela include an Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic, stalls for enrolment under Adhaar, MHIS, PMMVY as also Yoga and Zumba sessions for students and others.

Others who spoke during the programme include the Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, Pa’iem P. M Syiemlieh, Deputy Commissioner, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Shri W. Nongsiej, Junior Specialist, in charge, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Dr, W. Sutnga and Block Medical & Health Officer, Mairang Block, Dr. P. E. Hadia.
