Shillong, Nov 23: Taking a strong view of the firing incident at Mukroh, West Jaintia Hills District which left 6 dead including 5 civilians from Meghalaya, BJP State President, Ernest Mawrie said that such incidents are condemnable and should be prevented at all costs.

While expressing hope that the steps taken by both the governments of Assam and Meghalaya will result in justice being provided to the families of the deceased, Mawrie implored upon both state governments to find a permanent solution to such mis-happenings.

Mr. Mawrie said that his deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the families of the 5 civilians from Meghalaya – Sh. Sik Talang, Sh. Tal Nartiang, Sh. Thal Shadap, Sh. Chirup Sumer, and Mr. Nikhasi Dhar, and to the family of the forest guard from Assam – Sh. Bidya Singh Lehte.

All of whom had lost their precious lives in this mindless incident. He said that nothing can replace the loss of life, and the least the governments can do is to ensure that justice is served swiftly.

On the subject of incidents of arson and a sense of unrest in the state following the incident, Mawrie urged all people to show restraints and to not take law in their own hands. He called for peace from all sections of the society.

One mindless act cannot and should not be responded with another mindless act, he said. Mawrie also said that the state government should have provided better security instead of chasing away tourists who contribute to the economic growth of the state.
