MHRC in collaboration with the EJH District, organized a one day Awareness Programme

Shillong, August 22: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) in collaboration with the office of the District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat organized a one day Awareness Programme on Human Rights for the students at the secondary and college level today at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, Khliehriat.

Shri P. J. P. Hanaman, Member, MHRC, informed the gathering that Meghalaya is the third State of North East after Assam and Tripura to have a State Human Rights Commission constituted in order to safeguard the rights of every individual. Shri Hanaman also stressed on the basic rights, viz; Civil, Political, Economic, Social and Cultural rights of the people.

Shri A. Mawlong, Secretary, MHRC, enlightened the students on the Right to Liberty, Equality and Dignity. He also said these rights are enshrined in the Constitution of India to safeguard the citizens from any violation of human rights.

Advocate N. Sarkar and Shri S. Sangma, Inspector of Police also spoke on the occasion. Shri S. S. Syiemlieh, Addditional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District delivered a welcome address while Smti R. S. Manner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District proposed a vote of thanks.
