Minister in-charge forest Mr Clement released a poster on “Butterflies of Nongkhyllem”

Shillong, October 31: A weeklong celebration of Wildlife Week, 2017 concluded today wherein Forests & Environment Minister, Mr Clement Marak graced the valedictory function as Chief Guest at All Saint’s Hall, IGP Point, Shillong. The programme was organised by the Wildlife Wing of the Forests and Environment Department, Government of Meghalaya.

In his address as Chief Guest, Mr Clement Marak said that wildlife plays a vital role in our lives and helps in maintaining and balancing the eco-system. It is imperative that we as human beings adopt the principle of mutual co-existence to preserve and protect it, he added. He also urged upon the gathering to volunteer and work together in preserving the rich bio-diversity of the State.

During the function, the Chief Guest distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions held as part of the weeklong celebration and also handed over the Wildlife Samaritan Award, 2017 to wildlife rescuers, who helped and rescued the wild animals in distress.   Earlier, the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries released a poster on “Butterflies of Nongkhyllem”.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF, Meghalaya, Shri C. P. Marak, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (T), Meghalaya, Shri Y. S. Shullai, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Meghalaya, Shri B. S. Kharmawphlang and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Forests & Environment Department, Shri A. Mawlong was also present at the valedictory function.
