Miss Monica got bronze medal at the Asian Muaythai Championship 2018 held in China

Shillong, Dec 13: Muaythai Association of Meghalaya host a warm reception for the home coming of Miss. Monica Nongrum a resident of Umsawnongkharai Near Nongpoh Ri-Bhoi District. A lawyer by profession, Monica Nongrum is a well known martial arts athletes in Kickboxing and Wushu as well since her childhood right when she was studying in Class IV in her village.

Miss  Monica Nongrum took up Muaythai recently two years back and now she came back home with a bronze medal at the Asian Muaythai Championship 2018 held in Macua China from 5th – 11th December. National Team contingent consisting of 10 athletes of Muaythai well known as King of Martial Arts & An Arts of Eight Limbs managed to bring laurels for the country with 1 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Dean of School of Humanities, Dr. Streamlet Dkhar who was the Chief quest at the reception appreciated Monica to reach up to this height in the International arena but at the same time stressed upon all stake holders of sports and games in the State to come forward with all necessary logistics and supports so that our young athletes in any form of martial arts can excel more and shine for which till now it appears that with only natural talents and passion for the sports one could reach up up to this level at the Asian Championship.

Dr. Streamlet Dkhar also pointed out that it’s a prestige for all women folks in the State and the Region to see that women folks in different sports have shown their strength, ability, power and talent to reach International arena.

Angelus Sun, President, Muay Thai Association of Meghalaya (MTAM) stressed on the need for more supports from the concerns department and well wishers so that we can scout, tap and produce talents who could represent the Country in this area of Martial Arts for it goes well with the quotation that North East have a natural talents in martial arts.

Philanthropist Dr. Vikash Gupta and Chief Adviser to MTAM stressed on the need to leverage such skill, talents and passion for the games of martial arts to a higher levels so that the centre can bring in more human resources development in the North East to represent the Country.

Others who spoke included Ronnie M Rani and Lorenzo Pearson Warjri, General Secretary and Financial Secretary of MTAM respectively. Her journey to this Championship is not a smooth one as expressed by Monica Nongrum in respect of Financial Matters and other Technical logistics but expressed her gratitude to MTAM and other well wishers to reach up to this level.

Monica Nongrum have also been selected to represent the Country at the World Muaythai Championship to be held in Bangkok Thailand from 20th – 28th July next year.
