More than 100 people resign from Congress in protest against ticket alotment

Shillong, January 30: In another setback 115 members from Congress party has resigned over the issue of allotment of tickets in the State on Monday.

Congress allotted ticket to Lazarus Sangam from South Garo Hills over which rest of the members expressed their dissatisfaction and as a protest, 100 members have resigned from the party.

Reportedly another 15 members resigned from Ri Bhoi district in protest over the ticket issued to Witness Syngkli.All the 115 papers of resignation from the Congress party came from Chokpot and Jirang assembly seat.

State Congress president has reportedly defended the allotment of ticket to Lazarus, saying that Lazarus has greater mass appeal and will surely win.

The members of the Block Congress Committee of Chokpot constituency were reportedly very unhappy with the distribution of seats. The member reportedly wanted to support independent Legislator Samuel M Sangma in the upcoming election from that constituency.

Assembly polls in Meghalaya is schedule on February 27 next month and the resignation of such huge numbers from the party is a matter of concern for the Congress.

Before this incident, 5 more members including former Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh has resigned the party in December and before that Congress MLA P N Syiem has also deserted the party.
