More than 200 farmers attended the Mini Resham Krishi Mela held at Ummulong WJ Hills

Shillong, March 19: On the occasion of Mini Resham Krishi Mela held at Ummulong Dorbar Hall, West Jaintia Hills, Shri K M Hanumantharayappa Chairman, Central Silk Board, Govt of India, inaugurated two nos Incubation Chambers worth Rs. 8 lakh under IBSDP at Chawki Rearing Centre, Mawdymmai Farm of Dept of Sericulture & Weaving, Govt of  Meghalaya in presence of Shri Weiladmiki Shylla, MLA Jowai, Dr. Kanika Trivedi, Director, CSR&TI, Berhampore, West Bengal, Shri S.K. Barchung, Director, Dept of Sericulture & Weaving Govt of Meghalaya, Dr. Collin Z Renthlei, Scientist I/c, Central Silk Board, Shillong along with staffs of CSB and Sericulture & Weaving.

Later in the day long function where around 200 farmers from different parts of the District attended, an Exhibition programme was also held where different materials on Sericulture products/activities were exhibited by Dept of Sericulture & Weaving, NGOs and Central Silk Board, Shillong. Dr. Collin Z Renthlei, Scientist I/c, Central Silk Board, Shillong presided over the function.

Shri S.K. Barchung, Director, DOS Meghalaya, informed that the Department is ready to help all the genuine farmers who really wanted to work hard through various schemes available in the department. Shri Weiladmiki Shylla, MLA Jowai, said that he would do all his best through this new government to promote the farmers of the region so that they can improve their livelihood through Sericulture.  Dr. Kanika Trivedi, Director, CSR&TI, Berhampore informed that she is looking after 13 States of Eastern and Northeastern India to promote and strengthen Sericulture industry of the region through Scientific intervention and innovation of different technologies.

The Chief Guest Shri K M Hanumantharayappa, Chairman, Central Silk Board said that this region is very congenial for rearing silkworm, he urge the State government to implement various schemes wholeheartedly so that the farmers can be benefitted and self sufficient.

On this day 4 nos Booklets and Leaflets on Mulberry Sericulture technologies prepared by REC, Central Silk Board, Shillong for farmers of the region were released during the event.Solar light (3 bulbs) with mobile charging facility were also given to 10 best Mulberry farmers of Jaintia Hills as Awards and among them 2 farmers were given opportunity to speak about their activities where they highlighted their gratefulness to the Central and State Governments for assistance through different schemes.

In the Technical session the following topics were taught to the farmers by the Resource person on the topic, Mulberry Cultivation by Ms Lasiewdor Nongrang, Project Asst, REC, Shillong,Silkworm Rearing by Ms A. Passah, DSO, Jaintia Hills, Mulberry & Silkworm Diseases and Pests by Dr. Collin Z Renthlei, Sc-C, REC, Shillong, Post Cocoon Technology by Mrs. K. Rymbai, Reeling Foreman, DOS Reeling Unit, Ummulong
