Shillong, August 04: The MLA of 17-North Shillong Mr. Adelbert Nongrum express his concern for people of Meghalaya when working men and women are sacrificed by their employers.
The recent casual workers’ agitation highlighting their plight of not provided with minimal job and wage security and their legitimate demand for regularisation being tossed around by the Vice-Chancellor of NEHU by using his yesmen is now going astray.
Mr. Nongrum stated that instead of resolving the matter in a decent dialogue and discussion, the VC and his yes men are engaged in blaming the poor workers and the VC is engaging himself in their wage cut, such a wage cut is unacceptable as workers are forced to sit in protest because they have to highlight their issue of regularisation.
On the one hand the VC does not arrange for regularisation of casual workers and on the other the university administration is indulging into wage cut on the pretext of their absence from work.
That they are absent by being forced to agitate as there is no solution in sight for their very legitimate demand of regularization is used by some crooks to stall their salary and wage payment.
Already Meghalaya has lost 1000 acres of land for hosting NEHU and now this Vice-Chancellor drive us towards suffering by cutting wages of local tribal workers and others. This is insulting our people in our the state of Meghalaya.
This was especially when a large number of womenfolk are forced to lie and sit in before VC office of NEHU and the VC passes by in utter indifference to womenfolk, it is disrespecting mothers and women, that too, in a matrilineal society and the state.
Unless NEHU VC stops such playing of wrong attitude towards casual workers of NEHU, it would remain a feel of pain and suffering inflicted by such insensitive acts of the VC.
The MLA of 17-North Shillong demand immediate release of full salary of casual employees. My appeal to VC is not to precipitate the situation from bad to worse and no one should play with lives of our people.
He also demand immediate regularization of all casual employees without further pain and suffering inflicted on them. through draconian measures like wage cut.
