Mr Conrad writes to Mr Gadkari to convert road from Agia to Garobada as National Highway

Mr Conrad with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.Shillong, July 23: Mr Conrad K Sangma in his letter sent to the Union Minister of road and surface transport Mr Nitin Gadkari, asking the central government that the road under North Eastern Council connecting Agia in Assam to Garobada via Tikrikilla, Phulbari, Singmari, Rajabala, in Meghalaya to be taken up as national highway.

The MP from Tura said that the proposed road is a major lifeline for the people living in the region where a population of over two lakh is affected. During rainy season the people suffer badly, they were completely cut off from the rest of the state and the country as it gets flooded in the absence of proper road.

The people who are living in and around this areas connected by this road are facing immense and untold hardship as the road are completely neglected by the central as well as the state government for many years.

As the road condition has worsened people are force to take alternate route which is a much lengthier in distance as they have to take NH-52 by crossing two districts, thus making much more expensive to travel and much precious time wasted.

Mr Conrad said that this areas fall under  2-Tura Parliamentary constituency and the people are demanding that this road should be improved, Mr Conrad said that he has personally inspected this road and the condition is  bad, he has written on the road condition on the area last year but till now no action has been taken.

Since the construction of the mega bridge connecting Phulbari and Dhubri is on the pipe line, it will good if this road be upgraded to National Highway serving as multipurpose used for the economic growth of the people in the region, said Mr Conrad in his letter hand over to the Union Minister of road and surface transport Mr Nitin Gadkari.
