Mr John F Kharshing support the UDP MP Candidate after he left the Congress party

Shillong, April 08: Mr John F Kharshiing support the UDP MP candidate Dr Jemino Mawthoh after two days he left the Congress party. He made this announcement at the Press conference held at the NPP office in the present of the Vice President of the UDP Mr Alantary Dkhar  and the NPP state President Dr WR Kharlukhi.

Speaking to the media, Mr Kharshiing appreciate to the Party leaders of Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), led by Mr. Conrad K Sangma,  CM, Dr Donkupar Roy, Speaker,  Mr. Prestone Tynsong, Dy CM,  Dr DD Lapang, Dr W Kharlukhi,  Mr. Ivanlum Marbaniang, Mr. KP Pangniang, the United Democratic Party(UDP), the Peoples Democratic Front(PDF), the Hill State Peoples Democratic Party(HSPDP), Independents for being able to listen to the call of the people of Meghalaya who are yearning for new change and for agreeing to common candidates for the Lok Sabha seat for the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency in the name of Dr Jemino Mawthoh, former MLA and Ms Agatha K Sangma, former MP & MLA from the 2-Tura Parliamentary Constituency.

“My friends, in four days we will have to make a decision and the people of Meghalaya would have spoken, and I am sure they will speak clearly in favour of positive change.In this instance I cannot be a silent spectator calls have poured in from our friends from far and near from all over the State to express our views on this crucial matter of electing MP Candidates from Meghalaya for which I felt it my duty to also express my strong views for a better Meghalaya”.

Mr Kharshiing said that “I rise to express my support seeing the united positive approach of hope from the regional parties for the people, and appeal to all our friends from far and near to heed to this call and to rise to this historic call of unity in the candidature of Dr Jemino Mawthoh, for the Lok Sabha Election from the 1-Shillong Parliamentary seat, who commands respect not only for his ability and perseverance, but that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of thousands of people especially the youths of Meghalaya, who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of a Member of Parliament, is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving”.

Mr Kharshiing mention that this is will be a memorable election, and he recognize the special significance it has for the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo people of Meghalaya. He  always believed that India offers opportunities to all who have the will to seize it. Dr Jemino Mawthoh,  believes that too.

Meghalaya today is a world away from the past.  There is no better evidence of this than the proposal of the four regional parties to set their party affiliations aside by unitedly proposing  common candidates.  Let there be no reason now for us now to fail to perform our duty by voting and supporting the common MDA MP Candidates.

Dr Jemino Mawthoh, former MLA,  an accomplished academician,  initiator of many youth programs, is the fittest among the present Lok Sabha Candidates from the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency.

In this context he urge all the people of the State to join with him  in offering goodwill and earnest effort to find ways to come together, to find the necessary compromises, to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, protect our people and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better State than we inherited by voting for both common candidates i.e Dr Jemino Mawthoh,  from the UDP and for Ms Agatha Sangma, from the NPP.

He said that we must move beyond petty politics and work together to get our State moving forward. He assure all that this kind of consensus approach will help in the amicable and early resolution of the many constitutional conflicts in years ahead. Mr Kharshiing said that he  very thankful to the leaders of MDA for their tireless dedication to the cause, and the courage and grace they showed in the rough-and-tumble of a Lok Sabha Election to have been able to put up common candidates in both the Lok Sabha Seats of Meghalaya.

Mr Kharshiing call on all the people of Meghalaya, to not despair on our present difficulties but to believe always in the promise and greatness of its people, because nothing is inevitable here.  Kindly cast your vote on the DRUM (UDP) in favour of Dr Jemino Mawthoh for the 1- Shillong Parliamentary Constituency and on the BOOK (NPP) in favour of Ms Agatha Sangma, for the 2-Tura Parliamentary Constituency both common candidates of the MDA, said Mr Kharshiing.
