Mr Karo Sambhav launched E-waste Programme in Imphal of Manipur today

ImphalImphal, October 28:  An e-waste awareness and  management initiative has been launched in Imphal on Saturday by Mr Karo Sambhav with implementation partner Rongjeng Technologies. The awareness workshop was held at Imphal Valley School, Mantripukhri on Saturday which was participated by 25 high schools.

The teachers are now going to teach their students about e-waste management over a 4-months-long programme consisting 6 assignments for the students. This principal partners sponsoring the event are Dell, HP, Lenovo and Apple.

Karo Sambhav school programme aims at creating awareness on critical environmental issues e.g. Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipments (WEEE), engaging students on preventive environmental strategies like circular economy, and inspiring them to take actions in their daily lives.

The programme enables development of 21st century skills of collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, communication, ICT competencies and real-world problem solving, by deploying contemporary pedagogical practices in the classroom. We have designed a curriculum which enables development of teacher’s competence and empowers them to achieve the above mentioned goals.

The programme shall make an impact on several stakeholders like students, their peers, parents, relatives, and communities to critically evaluate and consider the environmental impact of existing lifestyles, and move towards a creation of a circular economy. The school programme encourages the students to lead a sustainable lifestyle, and inspires them to become the catalysts of change, as the name itself suggests, Karo Sambhav!!

The program consists of three phases divided over a period of 4 months.  In the initial phase, teachers will be given a training on the specially designed toolkit for the purpose, consisting of 6 exercises based on Circular Economy, Understanding Waste, Design for environment, E-waste introduction and Collection, Petitions and Potential career options in the field of Environment. Thereafter, teachers will be working in their schools with the students on various activities, community projects, practical field-work.

For academic year 2017-18, the programme is being held in 1000+ schools across India in alignment with the State Education Departments, and the State Pollution Control Boards. The programme is an enabler for ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, ‘Digital India’, and ‘Smart Cities’.

The program will end with celebrating the efforts and the achievements of various schools, teachers, and students. Schools will be felicitated and the focus will be to keep sharing the best work done by them, with others.
