Mr Vincent Member of Parliament said 68 Pc of India’s population constitutes of farmers

Shillong, March 8: Mr  Vincent H. Pala, Member of Parliament today inaugurated the District Kisan Mela 2019 organised by the office of the Project Director, Agricultural Technology Management Agency, South West Khasi Hills District on the theme “Increasing Farmers income through Latest Agricultural Technologies” in the office premises of the District Agriculture Officer, South West Khasi Hills District in the presence of Miss I. Laloo, Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pala said that the mela provides a platform where those involved in agriculture such as farmers, buyers etc can discuss, interact, share their views and ideas on how to promote agriculture to a large scale and on how to package and market the goods produced.

He also informed that the Government of India spent about Rs 60 crores on agriculture as 68% of India’s population constitutes of farmers. As the government concentrates not only in production but on Forward linkage, he advised the farmers to use the Portal, website, whatsappp and other technologies for marketing.

Understanding the challenges and consequences that they had to face due to climate change he advised them to use new technologies of farming and to make use of the trainings and other facilities that the department is offering from time to time in order to enhance their production and be self sufficient.

He hoped that through the Technical session farmers will learn and be enlightened more about new technologies which will increase their production and income.
