MSLSA organized a legal awareness on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005

Shillong, Oct 23: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in Collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Shillong; Meghalaya State Commission for Women, Social Welfare Department and Manbha Foundation organized a Legal Awareness and Outreach Programme on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 on occasion of “Pan India Awareness and Outreach Programme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” on the 22nd October, 2021 at Shillong Law College.

The Hon’ble Mr. Justice H.S. Thangkhiew, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya was the Chief Guest for the programme. The Resource Persons for the legal awareness programme on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and issues related to women were Shri. N.A. Khan, MHJS, District and Sessions Judge, East Khasi Hills.

Smt. Daphira Sohtun, MJS, Secretary, DLSA, Shillong; Smt. Annie Sohtun, Coordinator, Meghalaya State Commission for Women; Smt. Daisily Thangkhiew & Smt. Moni Borgohain, Legal Aid Counsels, East Khasi Hills District. Among others present was Shri. K. J. Lyngdoh, Joint Registrar (Listing)- cum-OSD to the Hon’ble the Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya; Shri. T.T.M. Sangma, MJS, OSD, MSLSA; Principal, Shillong Law College and students of Shillong Law College and Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong.

The topics covered during the programme were Free Legal Aid, Article 21, Article 39A, Domestic violence, role of the service provider, protection orders, residence orders, monetary relief, etc under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. Thereafter, the Chief Guest interacted with the participants during the open session.
